SMOKE TESTS
Smoke tests are carried out free of charge after we have swept a chimney,
removed any obstructions, fitted a cowl or removed a pot cover.
There are two types of test we can do:
1/ Smoke Draw Test
2/ Full Smoke Sound Test.
The chimney safety certificate that we issue indicates which test has been carried out and the results.
Smoke Draw Test
Using a smoke pellet in the fireplace or stove this test proves that the appliance is drawing properly, there are no obstructions and that it is safe to use. It may also show if there is any leakage from a stove doors or flue pipe.
Full Smoke Sound Test
This test requires us to block off the chimney pot using either our rubber pot stoppers or other methods. Smoke pellets are then burnt in the fireplace/stove to fill the chimney with smoke. The entire length of the flue must then be inspected, this includes any bedrooms the flue passes through and the loft space if there is one. Any sign of smoke leakage will be reported to the customer for consideration of rectifying the fault. Failure of this test will require us to fail the appliance as unsafe to use until the fault is rectified, either by us or another contractor at the customers discretion.
